A lot of the leaders I speak with about this topic roll their eyes – and that’s fine. Many people misunderstand the meaning of empathetic leadership.
It requires introspection and a willingness to grow. At its core, it’s about putting yourself in your team’s shoes and trying to understand what they need – out of you, out of their role in the business or the work environment – to perform at their best.
Empathy drives connection, and connection is a first-class ticket to engagement and motivation.
Let’s have a proper think of what empathy in leadership really represents. It’s not an easy exercise but you’ll see yourself become a better leader, day after day.
